Using a Template to Solder: Component Fabrication #18

Completion of the Canopy

Using the template allowed me to create most of the canopy frame, but I still needed to add a few elements which were easy enough to do manually once the framework was in place.

Using Templates to Solder: Component Fabrication Attempt #17

Because I needed two of the same component, but had to fabricate them both by hand, I created a MDF template to allow accuracy for both canopies.

I quite liked the shape that was formed between the brass and the MDF template.  It reminded me of a shipping yard, constructing long boats by laying down long strips side by side.

House Design

Combing the elements of the sand dunes, the shade sails, and the house, here is the final design.

Component Fabrication Attempt #16

I also tried using thin sheets of plastic and creating shapes by melting it around objects with a heat gun, in this case it was a small cup, however the results were far from accurate and so I decided not to use this technique in this project.

Component Fabrication Attempt #12-15

Here is a component I modeled which was intended for a shaded canopy.  While the soldered brass forms the framework, I'm not sure what to use for the canopy itself.

I initially tried random pieces of plastic which I melted together with a heat gun.

I then tried weaving strips of the same plastic together and then melting them together with a heat gun in the same fashion.

Finally I tried layering coloured tissue paper with PVA glue and then sticking than on the top, this was the effect I was after, much more so than the melted plastic.
