Here is a component I modeled which was intended for a shaded canopy. While the soldered brass forms the framework, I'm not sure what to use for the canopy itself.
I initially tried random pieces of plastic which I melted together with a heat gun.
I then tried weaving strips of the same plastic together and then melting them together with a heat gun in the same fashion.
Finally I tried layering coloured tissue paper with PVA glue and then sticking than on the top, this was the effect I was after, much more so than the melted plastic.
