Learning to Solder: Component Fabrication Attempts #1-6

Here are some of my initial attempts at soldering.  I was using a rosin cored solder that I already owned, but didn't have any flux.  I thought I'd try soldering before I bought the flux just to see what effects I could achieve.  I tried scoring the metal in one attempt to allow greater surface area for the solder to bind to, but this didn't work, I also tried using the balls of solder I was getting in conjunction with wire wound around the metal rod to make shapes and patterns.
